It is time for another installment of the Community Over Competition Series. Today we are hearing from Xza Higgins, the creator of the ultimate natural parenting convention, MommyCon. This post is extra exciting because in July I will be speaking at the MommyCon convention in Vancouver BC. I will share a little more about that below, after we hear from Xza.
What is the focus of MommyCon?
MommyCon is a nationwide convention series dedicated to creating and nurturing a community of parents and parents-to-be in celebration of natural parenting.
How did MommyCon get it’s start?
It all started with documenting my thoughts on motherhood through a blog called The Mommy Dialogues. I was hosting meet-up’s in the Chicago area, and as they grew, I realized that there was a need for events for parents everywhere. MommyCon was born out of that need, and quickly expanded across North America.
What can people expect to find and experience at a MommyCon convention?
We have a jam-packed schedule of workshops and seminars ranging from Cloth Diapering 101, through to infant nutrition, wrapping 101, and female health and wellness. We also have an exhibition hall featuring 80+ exhibitors. Be prepared for some serious shopping!
Overall, you will experience community, friendship and support. So many people come to MommyCon for the first time not really knowing what to expect, then walk away with a new sense of purpose and perspective on parenting. It’s very inclusive and welcoming!
What if someone can not afford to purchase a ticket for MommyCon?
We want MommyCon to be an inclusive community open to everyone. We offer a military scholarship program for members ranked E5 or below, as well as a scholarship program that is open to anyone who expresses being in a position of need.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about going?
You won’t regret attending MommyCon as there really is something for everyone at the event. Each event features a schedule that is unique for that particular city, and attendees can plan their day around sessions on a variety of topics. A huge part of the event is being surrounded by other parents so make time for socializing and shopping… you won’t regret it!
