How to Enjoy Bend Oregon's Gluten Free Foods and Epic Hiking
Bend Oregon, the perfect winter getaway for the entire family
In October of 2015 we visited Bend Oregon for the first time. We had the privilege of staying at Brasada Ranch. This amazing resort is located about a 25 minute drive from downtown. When my husband and I decided to getaway for thanksgiving in 2016, Bend was at the top of our list.Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links which means if you buy something through my link, I may get a small share of the sale at no extra cost to you. For more information please see my disclosure page. This time around we chose to use Airbnb.com (use my link to get $35 off your first rental). We rented this house in town. Now that we have experienced staying outside and inside of town we really feel you can’t go wrong. Either way you are going to have an awesome trip. One great benefit of the rental was being with in walking distance to quality coffee shops, restaurants and parks. Here is a list of where we ate and where we hiked during our 4 day trip.
Where to eat:
Thank you to Deschutes Brewery and Cafe Yumm for sponsoring our meals. Though our meals were provided at a discount the opinions I share are completely my own.
Deschutes Brewery
The Deschutes Brewery has an impressive beer list. Including one of my favorites, the Black Butte Porter. Because my husband and I are now gluten free we tried their house cider and whiskey. Both were excellent! They offer a gluten free menu and our waiter was very accommodating to our questions and dietary restrictions. We went during the dinner rush so there was a bit of a wait but it was worth it.
Cafe Yumm
Cafe Yumm is the perfect option for a delicious and affordable meal on the go. They offer many gluten free options. In fact they have “dietary requests welcome” posted on their website and menu. Our cashier was knowledgeable about the food and what options worked best for us and our diet restrictions.
Hola Nouveu Mexican and Peruvian Restaurant
When we arrived in Bend it was the evening of Thanksgiving. Many restaurants were closed or you needed a reservation. So we planned to go with an nontraditional Thanksgiving meal and went to Hola. The food and drinks were delicious! The service was top notch and our waiter was happy to answer questions regarding our diet restrictions. It was fun to try Peruvian dishes to change things up.
The Lot
This was by far our favorite place to eat. We kept coming back for more! This food cart pod has 5 food trucks, amazing atmosphere, beer, cider, kombucha and wine. The prices were awesome and the service was great from the bartender to the food carts. You would think an open air seating area would be cold during the winter. With heated seats and ceiling heaters pumping out warmth, it was down right cozy!We were able to find plenty of gluten, dairy and egg free options for our family. The other reason we loved this place was the fact that our rental was a 5 minute walk away.
One Street Down Cafe
On our last day we wanted to visit Smith Rock. We decided to find a place to eat in Redmond. This way we would be closer to our hiking location. After looking online we found One Street Down Cafe. They had a lot of good reviews. Their food was delicious. They offered gluten and dairy free options and were extremely accommodating. I had gluten free french toast that was better than some of the regular french toast I have had. If you will be going through Redmond at all this is a great option!
Don’t forget about the coffee!
Back Porch Coffee Roasters
If you are looking for an amazing cup of house roasted coffee then Back Porch is the place for you. This coffee shop was very welcoming and not pretentious in any way. The baristas were kind and extra friendly. They offer dairy free options and were happy to make our munchkin little almond milk vanilla steamers. The Coffee is so good that we visited 3 out of 4 days. We went to the location on Century Drive because it was only a 10 minute walk from our rental.
The Looney Bean
This is a fun and quirky coffee shop with an amazing location. They offer many delicious dairy free coffee drinks as well as gluten free goodies. The service is great and every one there seemed like the type of person you could sit down and enjoy a nice cup ‘o joe with. But my favorite part of this coffee shop is the outside. Behind the shop is a lovely lawn area right on the river! They have lawn chairs and lawn games so you can drink your coffee and enjoy the beautiful Bend scenery at the same time.
Bend has a thriving food scene and plenty of gluten free options. If you have been to Bend, what is your favorite place to eat? We are always looking for new places to try.
