Let’s go on a hike!
1. Waimea Valley
We had such a wonderful time visiting Waimea Valley. Thank you Waimea Valley for sponsoring our visit. This is a great option for the entire family. This beautiful park has gorgeous gardens, tropical plants, and a waterfall that you can swim in. With paved trails and even an option for a shuttle everyone can enjoy this beautiful location. We had so much fun during our visit that I dedicated an entire article to it.
2. Makapu lighthouse Trail
The next location that is perfect for the whole family is the Makapu light house trail. The entire trail is paved which makes it an easy walk. This trail is 2 miles round trip. It is mostly up hill so be ready for a slight workout. There are resting and viewing spots along the way. You could use a stroller, just be ready for an extra work out going up and back down. I chose to use my Tula and it worked great. There are no restroom facilities at this location, as of now. If you need to use the restroom you can get creative like us or use the facilities at the Makapu beach park near by.
3. Pillbox hike
This hike is one of our favorites. The trail can be steep in some areas. It mainly consists of dirt and rocks. You will want to make sure you are wearing good hiking shoes. We came across many families on this trail. You will need to keep a hand on your little ones and they might need extra help in certain areas. Baby wearing is a good option. We chose to carry Genevieve in our arms on this hike so she could take part in the fun climbing. The view from the look out areas are amazing!!! One of the most beautiful on the island! The trail entrance can be found to the left of the Mid Pacific Country Club. There is usually a sign near the opening. Parking can be tricky. You need to park in the neighborhood and walk up to the trail. Do not park in the Mid Pacific Country Club or along Kaelepulu Dr. or you may be towed. Because this hike is in a neighborhood please be mindful of the fact that people live in these homes. Be respectful of peoples property. We recommend parking near the beach. You can go on your hike and then go for a swim when you are all finished. It is a great way to spend the afternoon!
There are numerous hiking options on Oahu waiting to be explored. Do you have a favorite kid friendly hike on Oahu? We would love to hear about it!
