Happy Birthday to my Little Sister, One of my Greatest Blessings
On December 9, 1999 my family was made complete.
I can still remember how my parents told us that my mom was pregnant. They sat down my brother, sister and I and proceeded to tell us our dog, Yeller, was going to have a little brother or sister. Our first thought was a puppy. But they explained that our mom was going to have a baby. I was thirteen years old, and could not be happier. A new baby was going to be a whole new adventure for our family. Before I share about my little sister, I want to give a shout out to my mom. Now that I have experienced pregnancy and child birth, she is officially my hero. My mom took care of our family while dealing with some serious pregnancy sickness. I don’t ever remember her complaining. She then gave birth to my little sister without the use of pain medications and surprised everyone at the hospital for accomplishing this task at 40 years old!
And now, meet my sister.
Rebecca Grace Brewer decided to make her appearance a few days after my sister Ashley and I finished performing in our ballet academies production of the Nutcracker. Perfect timing! We instantly fell in love. Having a baby in the house was such a fun change for our family. Rebecca was such a fun little kid. And she continues to bring joy where ever she goes.Rebecca has grown up into a kind, smart, compassionate and caring individual. My dad’s passing has been especially hard on her. I am very proud of how she has grown and made it through this hard time. I know my dad is proud of her too, as he keeps an eye out from heaven. Not only is she an amazing sister, she is also an amazing Aunty. Genevieve adoringly refers to her as Aunty Becca. Becca was also one of Genevieve’s first words. She and my munchkin are adorable to watch. They really bring out the best in each other. I am delighted that my daughter has such a lovely Aunty to look up to.This year my sweet not so little little sister is celebrating her 17th birthday. Words can not express how much she means to me and I am honored to be her big sister.
