Find out why Moana is the must see film of the holiday season + free coloring pages
I was beyond excited to attend a pre-screening of Disney’s Moana!
If you have been following along with me for a while then you already know that we have a deep love for all things Hawaii! Our family has been looking forward to this movie for months. My cousin even dressed up as Moana for Halloween. Seeing this movie really made me miss my Oahu ohana.I received four tickets to the movie screening. Along with my husband I was joined by my 16 year old sister and my 8 year old niece. I wanted to see how the movie was received by multiple age groups. I am very happy to report that we all LOVED the movie!Thank you Review Wire Media for the opportunity to see the film.
First, a little bit about Moana.
“Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.” – Provided by Review Wire Media
What we loved.
The short film
The enjoyment begins before the movie even starts. The animated short “Inner Workings“ is a perfect start to the movie about getting the most from life. Let’s just say it gets you into the perfect mood for “Moana”.
The Animation
First of all, this movie is visually stunning. Computer animation has come such a long way over the years. We viewed the movie in 3D. The thing I loved about this 3D film was that you forgot you were watching 3D. And that is exactly how I like it!
The story
The movie is filled with adventure, humor, hula and music. I especially enjoyed the songs that were sung in the native Polynesian language. I feel they did a great job at highlighting Polynesian culture.
The Characters
There are so many likable characters in this movie. One thing I especially appreciated is that they made the character of Moana the kind of girl I would be happy for my daughter to look up to. Moana is portrayed as kind, strong, brave, respectful, thoughtful and compassionate. We also loved Gramma Tala! I am guessing Gramma Tala is going to be a lot of peoples favorite character. The other stand out for me was Maui’s tattoo. That’s right, a tattoo. But not just any tattoo. Maui’s tattoo was it’s own character that shows the deeper side of Maui’s character and provided plenty of comic relief.
Who should see it?
There are a few intense scenes that may be scary for small children. My 8 year old nieceabsolutely loved it. One of the things she enjoyed was the humor. Many of the jokes were geared toward all ages and not just thrown in for the adults. My 16 year old sister loved the story and how visually stunning the film is. Then last but not least my husband was extremely impressed with the animation and felt that it is a very fun filled adventure film that every one can enjoy.
Would we watch it again? You betcha ya! If you are looking for a great movie for your family to enjoy this holiday season do not miss Moana! Coming to theaters November 23, 2016.
